WANDER THROUGH YOUR WORDS, AND OTHER POEMS BY DONOVAN BALDWIN, AUGUST 6, 2024

 wander through your words

collect clouds of ideas

from dancing raindrops

-----

wetness of the world

filling her and cleansing her

poems on her skin

each striking drop a kiss

each stream down flesh a caress

she turns to the rain

naked bohemian

dancing in a summer rain

pelted by raindrops

-----

we set two limits

on the manner of our love

safety and respect

-----

when her demons howl

she knows he'll be at her side

helping control them

-----

demons holding back

dare approach with permission

as he guards her gates

-----

the vulva orchid

duplicates in flower form

desire's beginnings

-----

seas I've longed for you

mid the tidal ecstasies

quiet pools of love

-----

petals loosening

rose desperately opens

to spill its nectar

-----

(NSFW)

She is soaked in rain

The outer rain of nature,

The inner of her nature,

Reverberations and vibrations,

Shaking petals, causing dew

To precipitate

As the storm's thunder,

Shakes the stem of

Her eager blossom,

Separating petals

Into pathways

Followed by

Her lover's tongue,

As he drinks from

Her delicious deluge.

-----

no sin in pleasure

nothing wrong with ecstasy

or mutual love

-----

exciting unknown

not knowing what's coming next

but it will be good

-----

i dreamed that you cared

though it could be but a dream

such things don't come true

-----

you must come tell me

what should your punishment be

for running away

-----

she kneels before me

prepared for her punishment

naked and ready

-----

tonight's special treat

spanking of both front and back

until body weeps

-----

it's not me she loves

but what my words do to her

taken to extremes

-----

i'll be hurt again

that's how it always happens

when love goes one way

-----

strip naked love

lay yourself across my lap

ass ready for spanking

-----

i love you naked

i have never held that back

beauty of body

-----

this is who i am

please don't tell me to change

then i won't be me

-----

gentle trap he set

loving words of woven silk

bound about her heart

-----

her lovely darkness

beyond common daring use

hid her special sins

-----

if i were painter

i would paint so many nudes

all of them of you

-----

asking honestly

have you any idea

how beautiful you are

-----

body an altar

holy how we mortals sin

you are my goddess

-----

how rare your beauty

standing naked all revealed

idol for lover

-----

he indulges her

curious explorations

carnal adventures

-----

he found her perfect

but she never wanted him

yet became poems

-----

nope i'm not perfect

but i haven't changed a bit

i'm still the same guy

-----

can you see the truth

i haven't changed at all

you've just seen more

-----

only a poet

never really real to her

just meaningless words

YOU SPEAK TO ME - A POEM

 By Donovan Baldwin

Even without words,

You speak to me.,,

Of quiet walks

On moonlit shores,

Love songs softly played,

On old guitars,

Of candles fluttering

In an evening breeze,

As gossamer curtains

Dance to the same

Unheard music...

Of stories laughed at,

Lies disbelieved with

A smile and upraised eyebrow

And, quiet, special looks,

In private pauses...

Of fingers touching

Across an old table,

Marked with years,

And promises of more,

For those sharing there...

Of wishes, dreams, desires,

Granted and still in

The hands of Fate,

And, silent prayers,

For their fulfillment...

Of times gone by,

And yet to come,

History not yet made,

But, with luck,

The finest moments,

Of them all...

Of all this and more...

Even without words,

You speak to me.

IF ONLY I COULD SPEAK

By Donovan Baldwin

If only I could speak
The words which reverberate
In secret recesses of my mind,
The poetic phrases
That my lips cannot form
The smooth sentences that
Hide behind this silent face,
Saying so much
Echoing so loudly
Over and over in my thoughts,
Yet, which must remain unheard
Only existing within this
Disordered brain which
Knows not how to speak,
And as insensitive ink upon
These pages of poetry.

FIREFLY OR FAIRY, AND OTHER POEMS BY DONOVAN BALDWIN WRITTEN MARCH 3, 2020

By Donovan Baldwin

so vulnerable
flicker in darkening woods
firefly or fairy

-----

as snakes across rocks
silent silver slithering
the waters glide by

-----

seeking of the words
faithful friends of olden times
in memory's well

-----

words needing no ink
deeply engraved on our hearts
glowing with each beat

-----

Night makes the familiar strange
And even the bravest quivers with
An atavistic fear sent downward
Along the gnarled branches of
The tree of man from ancestors
Who sat beside their puny fire
Brave souls by day who quaked
At the unknown terrors
Behind the cloak of night.

SENSUAL KISSES AND OTHER POEMS BY DONOVAN BALDWIN WRITTEN FEBRUARY 27, 2020

By Donovan Baldwin

sensual kisses
her wild honeyed lips to mine
two bold hummingbirds

-----

Ah, the words, they came,
So early in the morning,
And yet, they didn't stay,
But wandered off speaking
To one another lovingly,
And in verbal embrace
As they strolled
So casually away,
Into a place
I could not follow,
Looking wistfully
Back at me as they,
Like last night's dreams
Faded from my memory,
Before I could touch them,
Leaving but
A smiling awareness
Of the passing of
Something beautiful

-----

with experience
never lose your innocence
in mature pleasures

-----

every inch of her
untamed land to be explored
hills plains and grasslands

-----

take my naive hand
boldly guide it where desired
teach it what you need

-----

softly as it falls
i caress her exposed form
with most avid gaze

-----

her body throbbing
at passion's highest moment
her wild wordless cries

-----

most seductive garb
i've looked at all you offer
nothing works for me

-----

in depths of our love
we enjoy free pursuit of
sensual pleasures

-----

delicious kisses
following the curves i love
in endless pathways

-----

too long she waited
time for her resurrection
into new pleasures

MAKE LOVE AT LOW TIDE, AND OTHER HAIKU BY DONOVAN BALDWIN WRITTEN FEBRUARY 16, 2020

By Donovan Baldwin

made love at low tide
caressed by waves coming in
rolling on the sand

-----

wearing but my words
she brings me her responses
with lustful passion

-----

she's caught unaware
a most urgent storm rises
as i kiss her there...

-----

dreams of caresses
tantalizing kisses fade
with dawn's arrival

-----

held within our arms
penetrated by our love
sharing ecstasy

-----

intimate kisses
bare bodies and souls caress
unlimited touch

-----

touches and kisses
love echoing back and forth
without an ending

-----

as i caress you
place your hand upon my heart
beating happily

-----

speak no careless words
lest they be reality
which lasts forever

-----

i search her secrets
uncover erotic clues
elementary!

-----

writing about you
poet unable to put
his love into words

-----

favorite caress
our full body naked skin
in total contact

-----

over open lips
love's liquid flowed then swallowed
delightfully warm

-----

your eyes two deep pools
so deceptively quiet
flashing with passion

-----

your hidden secrets
i can spy behind your words
exciting woman

-----

you should be ashamed
or so your mind speaks to you
i say otherwise

-----

arching of your back
quivering of your body
your exultant gasp

MIX OUR WORDS WITH WINE, AND OTHER POETRY BY DONOVAN BALDWIN, WRITTEN FEBRUARY 14, 2020

By Donovan Baldwin

mix our words with wine
exchange flavors with our lips
exquisite mélange

-----

i would eat them all
delicious treats you offer
so sweetly displayed

-----

sipping from your cup
savoring your loving wine
dripping from our lips

-----

naked embraces
blissful gratification
medley of desires

-----

warm water caress
as i guide the shower spray
over your body

-----

this loving moment
let your inhibitions fall
be true to yourself

-----

I pick up my words
Examine them,
Weighing and choosing,
Discarding,
Selecting,
For, to create an image
Of the one I love
I must choose only
The most accurate,
And yet romantic,
Erotic,
To describe one
So beautiful,
And so beloved.
At last,
With words in hand,
I begin..

SCRAPS OF PERSIAN POETRY, AND OTHER POEMS BY DONOVAN BALDWIN WRITTEN JANUARY 24, 2020

By Donovan Baldwin
Persian poet

Scraps of Persian poetry,
Japanese, Chinese, German,
Balinese, French, and Irish,
For the love of it...
That's the word... love...
Love songs of other places,
Races of this one race
Called mankind,
We, brother sister poets,
Singers of love songs,
We all hear and read and
Understand the warp and woof,
Of the poetic soul despite,
To our ears,
The oddness of the language,
For the inner colors of
Our souls are all the same.

-----

My friend, Sun, the artist
Awoke in a mellow mood today.
Lazily brushing
Pastel pink across the east,
Pastel gold along the west,
All against a bowl of blue
For a watercolor dawn.

-----

I was thinking about Spring
When I saw beside the path,
Small pink flowers
Timidly poking their tiny heads
Up among dead and frosted
Blades of grass,
Not sure if it's time
To spring forth,
Or to wait a while,
For warmer weather.
We'll wait together,
The tiny flowers and I.

-----

I lost some words.
They're around here somewhere,
Hiding from me.
They know I want to play with them,
And they're tired of me
Using them for my own pleasure.
Wish I knew how to
Make my words have fun.
Understand that I love them,
And want them to come out,
And play with me.

-----

Let's climb some hills,
Explore some caves,
Go for a dip in
A sacred grotto.
Let's smile and laugh
At the silliest things,
Made exciting,
Hilarious,
Because we're sharing them.
You and me.
That's what makes a good time,
Wherever we are,
Whatever we're doing...
Now, about those hills and caves...
And that grotto.

-----

Somewhere between mountains and the sea,
A field of flowers demands to be seen,
And lovers pass from one to the other
Happy to be wherever they are
As long as they can be together,
For it's not the place but the person,
Who makes you want to go again.

HER BOSOM HEAVING FROM THE CLIMB, AND OTHER POEMS WRITTEN JANUARY 19, 2020

By Donovan Baldwin
Daphnis and Chloe by Nicolaes Verkolje
Her bosom heaving from the climb,
Up the hill of winds, or,
From the crushing embrace
Of her lover emerging from
The mist of the woods into
The light upon the heath,
To take her in his arms
Parting the reeds of the pool
To drink the waters of love,
Until all is silent and
They rest in joined slumber.

-----

i write poetry
caresses meant for your heart
touching more than flesh

-----

my love a blanket
comforting not smothering
you wrap yourself in

-----

hands do more than feel
they trace runes upon our skin
rituals of lust

-----

My mind is restless,
And cannot settle.
It drags me from novel,
To poetry,
Philosophy and essay,
Back again to
Medieval plots,
The love affairs of kings,
And murders by monks.
My mind,
Restless,
In search of
Its own words.

-----

I remember the shore,
The sea, listening to
The high wind which
Blows in from
Somewhere,
With a story it
Might be trying to tell me...
Or, am I making up
A fable of my own,
From a hundred books,
Innumerable imaginings
Woven
From sun, and sand, and sea,
And the unceasing voices
I hear in the wind?

Rest Ballerina and Other Poems Written January 18, 2020

By Donovan Baldwin
rest ballerina
how arduous your efforts
creating beauty

-----

ensnared by my words
bound by ardent poetry
willing submissive

-----

sunset's exposé
colorful production in
cinematic hues

-----

fore my yearning eyes
you pass aware of my gaze
and power you wield

-----

without touch i feel
without sight i can see you
always there for me

-----

written on my skin
poured into my thirsting mouth
your amorous words

-----

beneath the sky's fire
lit by sunset we ignite
bursting into flames

-----

beneath our blanket
we lovers perform our own
rising at the dawn

-----

poet i thought i
wrote you into existence
but learned you were real

-----

Most eclectic bookcase,
Built by my father into one wall,
Floor to ceiling with books
Literary guild,
Book of the Month Club,
Bible and Britannica
There I found
The old tattered book of poems,
Hunted Moby Dick,
Rode with the Musketeers,
And read of many troubles
I was too young to understand,
But, I learned at this school, this
Most eclectic bookcase.

POEMS WRITTEN JANUARY 2, 2020 BY DONOVAN BALDWIN

i'll find love today
in the place i always do
within your embrace

-----

show me your words babe
naked thoughts upon the stage
stripped down and open

-----

our pages touching
loving livre de chevet
each word a caress

(livre de chevet = bedside book)

-----

let's write together
a love story to be banned
too hot to handle

-----

Draw lovers naked
For if clothed,
They must still show
All that they are
To the other,
Expect to see
Everything
When they gaze upon
Their loved one.
No secrets or veils
No shame or
Embarrassment
Between true lovers.
Show them naked,
For naked they
Should always be.

-----

I gaze across the Texas prairie,
Stretching westward to infinity,
Or at least New Mexico,
Under the rolling gray clouds.
I've traveled beneath those clouds,
Or at least, their brethren,
In so many parts of the world,
The soft, billowing gray clouds,
Which should be sad,
Or at least, you'd think they were,
For I could travel forever
Gladly within their
Stormy promise of adventure.

-----

dying candle light
the rising of morning sun
smiles of remembrance

-----

Black deserted streets,
Shining wetly in moonlight,
Bright white snow on rooftops
And treetops,
Golden glow of windows
Upon the silent pathway,
The sounds of laughter,
Zither music and song
Spilling out like a
Motion picture postcard,
As a lonely soldier,
Thousands of miles from home,
Saved the memory for later.

-----

my words are flowers
i'll cover you with petals
tenderly fragrant

-----

michelangelo
i stand in admiration
in reverent awe

-----

Leaves which died
In Autumn,
So bravely and
So beautifully
Brilliant in
Their livery of
Golds and reds,
Now lie,
Dead soldiers,
Drab brown and gray,
Like photographs
From older wars,
In the cold pools,
Of nature's tears,
To be recalled only
In verse and photo,
Reminders of
Forgotten adventures.

POEMS, COMMENTS, AND HAIKU BY DONOVAN BALDWIN, SEPTEMBER 19, 2019

in your honeyed realm
entranced by dripping petals
thirsting for your love

-----

your mouth unwraps me
sweet words strip my concealment
lover left naked

-----

When words begin to come
They are driven by the winds
Blowing from some secret land
An island by the sea where
Lovers, we, walk hand in hand
Appraising sunsets, and,
The sand beneath our feet,
Stopping to exchange kisses
And caresses in the warm surf
At the edge of our own world.

-----

your lips to my lips
your soft sweet nectar soothing
insatiable thirst

-----

tantalizing tongue
offers more than poetry
at touching moments

SHORT LOVE POEMS BY DONOVAN BALDWIN. January 21, 2019

THE HONEY OF YOUR LOVE
Come naked to me, Love.
Bending to me,
Open your dear lips and pour,
The sweet honey of your love
Into my mouth,
Until overflowing,
It fills and covers me,
Making love,
Your love,
A part of all of me,
Come naked to me, Love,
And spill the honey of your love,
All over me.

-----

I LOVE THIS MADNESS

I love this madness,
This world we live in,
That others cannot see,
Or hear or touch,
Cannot imagine,
For we have stepped beyond,
Where the "normal" people live,
And seen and done and felt things
Of which they can only dream,
And weep that they have not.

-----

IF EVER WE'VE MADE LOVE

If ever we've made love,
It was just now,
As you took me,
Threw me down
And stripped me,
Had your way with me,
Your words leaving me
Naked and defenseless,
Gasping with arousal
And an aching want.
Sated with climactic bliss,
And yet. desiring more...
Speak more words to me.

-----

IT HAPPENS WHEN YOU APPEAR

When you appear,
Your face,
Your words,
Just your thought,
It happens,
Beyond mere words,
Something near a growl,
Yet, not a warning...
Rolls up from my heart,
My depths you've touched,
A primal sound of lust,
Desire, want, taking,
Dominant, and yet,
Somehow...
Abject submission.

-----

I LOST THE POEMS

I lost the poems my heart was writing,
As words and images flew between us,
So strong and vibrant,
So complete and compelling
At the moment of their inception,
So, I must content myself,
With what I summon now,
But know, my Love,
What my heart wrote then
Was so much more.

POEM: YOUR WORDS

By: OH

Your words feel like honey
Flowing smoothly on my skin,
Soothing my face like rain,
I lift my arms to welcome your beautiful imagery,
And bask, and bathe
In all its wonderful revelry.

Your words are my hope,
For wonderful mornings,
And enchanting moonlit evenings,
A pleasant walk in the park,
A quiet afternoon of tea,
Or just an intimate cuddle by the sea,

Your words are like magical wands,
That light up my eyes,
That bring silly smiles to my face,

Your words are IN my heart,
Etched and embedded in my deepest core,
For I know the heart that writes them,
The mind that creates them...

And sometimes, I even know the words,
Before you write them,
Because your words are written in my heart
For all time.

Poem: We Only Work With Words

By: Donovan Baldwin

We only work with words,
We poets do,
To sing,
To draw,
To point,
To link,
To loosen that which must be free.

We only work with words,
We poets do,
As best we can,
As they come
As they go,
Or stay,
Emblazoned on our souls.

We only work with words,
We poets do,
So variable,
So insensible,
So certain,
So unsure,
So real,
So lying and yet, because...

We only work with words,
We poets do,
We love,
We laugh,
We sing,
We praise,
We demand,
We defend,

And sometimes...
We fail.

For...

We only work with words,
We poets do,
And words are clay, which,
Though molded properly,
And sure and glistening at first,
May slump or turn drab,
In the heat of day and sight of men.

We only work with words,
We poets do,
And ask the reader to read,
What was in minds and hearts,
When set upon the page,
With eyes like ours,
Who saw the sun and sky,
And tried to sing its praises,
But missed the mark.

So too, with love, and honor, and courage...

Read our tales with piety and pity,
For the round-shouldered scribe,
Trying to make beauty out of letters,
For...

We only work with words,
We poets do,
And must leave the living,
And understanding of our work
Up to you.

Poem: The Weight of Words

By: Donovan Baldwin

A pendulum of understanding
Hangs suspended over us,
Pushing minds with impetus given,
By the weight of words.

Iron words, gossamer words,
Balanced, counterbalanced,
Weights shifting with the swing,
And tempo of time and history.

Gathering and defining humanity, and
Inhumanity, unequally...
Knowledge, belief, misconception,
Truth, difficult to interpret in time.

Limned and lighted at each moment,
Sliding and shifting upon that
Pedantic pendulum, given impetus,
By the weight of words.

Thoughts On The Meaning Of Words

By: Donovan Baldwin

I think that most of us agree that words have meanings. The problem I have seen over my seven-plus decades on this Earth is that we tend to assign more meaning to certain words, nouns and verbs, and words that agree with our thoughts.

I don't know how many times I have seen big blow-ups over some statement, that was quoted over and over, but, without all the words that came with it, "what if", "could it be", "I suppose it's possible", and, "maybe", just to name a few.

People wonder, people speculate, people theorize possibilities (It's sometimes called "thinking", even "thinking out loud"...hmmmm.)

Anyway, they often do this, we all do this, without really meaning that the speculation whidh follows the modifying phrase, "maybe", and so on, be taken as our final and absolute say-so on any given subject.

Headlines, whether in the "news", or printed on images, are short to grab the reader's attention, and provoke interest. They seldom are meant to instruct or define.

So, if you see something on a social media site, or in the news, that sounds like a headline...it probably is...and, it's goal is NOT to inform, but, to hook your interest.

However, if you want to know the facts behind the headline, you'll have to do some "due diligence" and find out what actually was said or intended.

Do this a few times, and you might be surprised how many headlines don't really tell the truth.

The Limitations Of Words

By: Donovan Baldwin

I love words, but, sadly, they do have limitations.

For one, they are finite, combined in multitudinous patterns in attempts to define or describe a nearly infinite, set of events, emotions, experiences, things, actions...perhaps even that list is infinite.

Probably not, but, for most humans it might as well be.

I was recently thinking about a single word, "courage".

I have seen it defined as "the ability to do something frightening" and "strength in the face of pain or grief".

Good enough for most of us, most of the time. We can all come up with images or memories of our own acts, or those of others, that fit those definitions.

I am also sure that many of us can think of acts of "courage" that might not fit neatly into those definitions. I'm sure a lot of semantic quibbling would occur, but, still, people do courageous things, big, and small. every day.

I often feel that facing each new day is a pretty courageous act for some of us.

Going in to work, having a baby, burying a loved one...the list of commonly courageous stuff is endless it seems.

Don't get me wrong, I respect people who do the extremely courageous things, especially those who do so for the good of others. Think about police officers, fire fighters, soldiers, doctors, nurses, linemen after a storm...the list is long. Lots of people doing things requiring courage.

Still, a lot of you, moms, dads, "ordinary people" (no such thing, really) do courageous things without complaint or recognition daily.

Just want you to know I am aware that you're out there, and I try to spot you and thank you. If I miss you, here's a general "Thank you!" I know that's not perfect, but, would like to day it anyway.

Overbearing Ignorance

By Donovan Baldwin

In 72 years, I have made my way through college, and read my way through many books; technical, informational, philosophical, and fictional.

I have acquired, and forgotten, various job skills.

I have learned all kinds of terms for "stuff" from abstruse and confusing, to absolutely senseless.

One thing in common about ALL these terms is: If you say them to somebody who doesn't know what THAT term means, you might as well be speaking a foreign language.

THAT also means that, if you use one of those terms to someone who does not understand it, someone who may be ten times smarter than you OR ME, and they don't react properly...they are not necessarily dumb. If we understand their confusion and take the time to explain what we actually meant, THEN, neither are we.

“If you wish to converse with me,” said Voltaire, “define your terms.”

Two people cannot begin to understand each other, or even honestly agree or disagree, if they do NOT understand what the other is saying. Yet, so many times I have seen someone training, or arguing with, someone, gloat over their supposed superiority because they used terms the other did not understand, or was not familiar with.

Someone who intentionally uses unknown, specialized, or esoteric terms to make another seem ignorant, is an ideal example of ignorance.

Poem: If I Could Use My Words...

By: Donovan Baldwin

If I could use my words
I would use them to:

Tease you, tantalize you, tempt you,
Cajole, caress, and comfort you.
Take you, wrapped in love's embrace
To the heights of ecstasy,
And further still...

Until...

Gasping with the pleasure of the ride,
You collapsed with me once more,
Upon the breast of Earth.

I would use my words to:
Bring you to your knees,
Pledging undying love,
And a willingness to
Do my bidding in all ways
So that I could have the joy
Of freeing you from that pledge.

If I could use my words so well,
I would use them
To make you speak the truth
About the deepest secrets and desires
Within your heart.

And, with my words, I would assure
That you never doubted
Your secrets would be kept.
But, never could I use my words
To hurt, harm, or disrespect
The pure, sweet soul
Within your breast.
