I WOULD WATCH THE STORMS, AND OTHER POEMS BY DONOVAN BALDWIN WRITTEN APRIL 26, 2020
I would watch the storms
Walls of rain clearly defined
Walk, as we say, across the bay,
Purple black streaks painted
From dark sky to dark water,
A silent mysterious torrent
Full of thunder and lightning,
Power displayed too far away,
Yet oncoming reality.
-----
In night's darkness,
The slightly darker
Waves in moonlight,
Curl with glowing crests,
Covering the sand
And receding,
Leaving the wet shore
Glistening somewhere
Between brown and silver,
And a salt spray smell,
Lingers with the echo,
Of the wave now gone.
-----
a warrior gone
battle armor gloves and mask...
death on the front line
-----
each sunrise sunset
watch well and remember all...
this time comes but once
-----
in her secret place
there hides my long vagrant muse...
silent in my ear
-----
if the rain be tears
you become my raging storm...
before which i break
-----
I need no paints
To draw my love,
Nor does she need,
Paints to draw me on,
For the model as she sits
Is the woman I wish to have
Not paints and powders
Baubles added to
Lips I wish to kiss,
Body I long to hold.
Heart I wish were mine.
-----
instead of angel
real experienced woman...
warm true and willing
-----
prisoner am i
life and happiness forfeit...
pacing in my cell

GIFT OF GILT AND SILVER, AND OTHER POEMS BY DONOVAN BALDWIN WRITTEN MARCH 28, 2020
Gift of gilt and silver,
Amber, glass, and enamel
Wrapped about in
Gold filigree.
Ancient wedding brooch
From Tara,
Eighth century they tell me.
No need to write a poem about,
Poetry in itself.
-----
if i come to you
will you understand my desires
are the same as yours
-----
two people in love
closely intimately one
kept so far apart
-----
i would say the words
but my touches say much more
if you will listen
-----
life is tough as nails
enduring long ending fast
life can be fragile
-----
Water bathes in one way,
The wind in another.
Each is cleansing,
Each whispering tales,
Hints and suggestions
Of lands and people
Far away and near.
Wind neath the sun,
Caressing the skin,
Arouses feelings akin
To those of a lover,
And a desire,
Like making love,
To slip into
Nature's arms
Once more.
-----
How many books
Are crammed within my head,
Stacked upon the shelves of my mind,
Gathering dust until, taking them down,
One by one I turn the pages,
Read a page a paragraph
Stop and consider the words
Echoing in my brain,
Demanding to be with their friends,
To go out and play.
-----
night is for hunting
take rest in the heat of the day...
advice to a wolf
-----
naked words reveal
innermost desires and loves...
i have no secrets
-----
bare feet on the ground
sun and wind upon my skin...
in nature's bedroom
-----
the stars have their names
humans cannot understand...
shining without us

FIREFLY OR FAIRY, AND OTHER POEMS BY DONOVAN BALDWIN WRITTEN MARCH 3, 2020
so vulnerable
flicker in darkening woods
firefly or fairy
-----
as snakes across rocks
silent silver slithering
the waters glide by
-----
seeking of the words
faithful friends of olden times
in memory's well
-----
words needing no ink
deeply engraved on our hearts
glowing with each beat
-----
Night makes the familiar strange
And even the bravest quivers with
An atavistic fear sent downward
Along the gnarled branches of
The tree of man from ancestors
Who sat beside their puny fire
Brave souls by day who quaked
At the unknown terrors
Behind the cloak of night.

POEMS, COMMENTS, AND HAIKU BY DONOVAN BALDWIN, SEPTEMBER 20, 2019
where we barter kiss for kiss
touches for touches
-----
your love a diamond
my endless goal perfect gem
in ideal setting
-----
as each night passes
i write out my love in verse
words reveal my soul
-----
i poet, singer
troubadour seeking your love
offering mine to you
-----
i savor your fruit
puckered berries tasty ripe
offered with your love
-----
love's wine light and warm
tangy and sweet to my taste
i crave all you have

Poem: Night
Swept with stars, small twinkling dreams
Night covers more than this small world.
It stretches to the spring of time,
Where lies eternity, sleeping, curled.
The night above is just a piece,
A portion of a greater all.
Here burns man, much like the stars,
As they do, seeming cold and small.
Each, a tiny flame of hope,
A flicker glimpsed in dark of night,
Bound to hold the darkness back,
Bringing promise of the light.
