POEM: WITHIN MY STORM

By: Donovan Baldwin

When rain falls,
Wind blows,
Thunder and lightning
Split the sky,
I come alive,
Enter the clouds,
Ride the wind,
Thunder shakes my soul,
Lightning brands my heart,
I soar,
I sail,
Aloft above this earth,
No longer bound
By time,
Ageless,
Free as an eagle, wolf,
Within my storm.

SHORT LOVE POEMS BY DONOVAN BALDWIN January 24, 2019

WALKING AS A BALLERINA

Neither mirror nor photographer.
I cannot show you as you appear.
Look into my words,
Read them as they roll,
Unbidden, in loving honesty,
From mind and fingers.
See the woman I see,
And you will stand straight and tall,
Walking proud and beautiful.
On tiptoe as a ballerina.

-----

A RAGGED MAN

I see your words, as
You say,
Or try to say,
That you are broken.
I understand.
I am too.
I've been putting myself back together,
For nearly 30 years.
Not complete.
But, I try to show the parts of me I can,
Ragged edged...
Glued and stitched as they may be.

----=

JUST AROUND THE CORNER

A sudden glimpse,
Of what?
Almost anything,
Suddenly we are almost together.
A touch of something,
Soft fabric perhaps?
A scent...
A perfume?
A flower?
Wafting by momentarily
On a random breeze...
A snippet of a song...
There you are...
Just out of reach,
Just around that corner.

-----

MY WORDS RUN TO YOU

My words see you,
Run to you,
Tripping over themselves,
In their eagerness to
Wrap themselves around you,
Taking the essence of you
Into their being,
So that they will become,
Better, more loving words,
That can embrace the world,
Sharing the love,
The beauty,
That you give them.

-----

I CAN NEVER REALLY LOSE YOU

I can never really lose you.
Not just part of my life.
You are a part of me,
Of who I am.
I make decisions as if you are here,
By my side,
Pointing, laughing,
Changing me, my heart,
With an eyebrow's lift,
A questioning smile,
A reassuring touch,
That I'm on the right path.

-----

IN MY DAILY FANTASY

In my daily fantasy,
You write to me,
Words I put in your heart,
Pledges of love,
Stories of dreams,
Sharing of pleasure,
Adventure,
Life,
And love...
You write so well,
So lovingly,
With the words...
I put in your heart.

SHORT LOVE POEMS BY DONOVAN BALDWIN January 23, 2019

THE SALT OF YOUR TEARS
You weep.
Not with sadness,
But, with the depth of your passion,
Responding to the love
I tried so poorly to explain...
Laughter on your face,
Tears in your eyes,
Upon your dear cheeks,
Gladly, I taste
The salt of your tears,
As I kiss each one...
Each silver drop of love.

-----

WORDS FAIL

Words fail.
I know what you are to me.
Who you are to me.
Who I am because of you,
But, there are no words that suffice,
Sufficient to the task of painting that picture,
Sharing the depth and intensity of all...
All...
You mean and are to me.
Perhaps my lack of words says more.

-----

COMPLETE ME

You did not complete me,
Make me whole.
Instead,
You stripped me,
Unveiled me,
Showed me the whole,
Entire,
Complete,
Me,
Made me look at myself, and
See what you saw,
What was there all the time.
I have always been complete,
You showed me
What the entirety of me
Truly is.

-----

IN DARKNESS

When darkness falls,
All seems senseless,
And there is no path,
You are my light,
My reason,
At your side,
The place I seek
Where I will be safe...
Forever.

-----

ONE LAST SOARING FLIGHT

One last soaring flight,
Leaving earth and care behind,
Seeking sunlight beyond the clouds,
Joined in this winged ecstasy,
By you, as tip to tip,
Our wings beat,
Higher and higher together,
Reaching to touch the sun,
And leave as one in
A golden blaze of glory,
Forever joined.

-----

SPIRIT WIND SPEAKS

Spirit wind speaks of secrets,
Known only to the moon,
And a few select elders
Of the people of the night,
Who share among themselves,
But not with mortals
A tale of two lovers,
Separated by sea and mountain,
Time and space and history,
Each lost and alone,
Who found each other.

SHORT LOVE POEMS BY DONOVAN BALDWIN. January 21, 2019

THE HONEY OF YOUR LOVE
Come naked to me, Love.
Bending to me,
Open your dear lips and pour,
The sweet honey of your love
Into my mouth,
Until overflowing,
It fills and covers me,
Making love,
Your love,
A part of all of me,
Come naked to me, Love,
And spill the honey of your love,
All over me.

-----

I LOVE THIS MADNESS

I love this madness,
This world we live in,
That others cannot see,
Or hear or touch,
Cannot imagine,
For we have stepped beyond,
Where the "normal" people live,
And seen and done and felt things
Of which they can only dream,
And weep that they have not.

-----

IF EVER WE'VE MADE LOVE

If ever we've made love,
It was just now,
As you took me,
Threw me down
And stripped me,
Had your way with me,
Your words leaving me
Naked and defenseless,
Gasping with arousal
And an aching want.
Sated with climactic bliss,
And yet. desiring more...
Speak more words to me.

-----

IT HAPPENS WHEN YOU APPEAR

When you appear,
Your face,
Your words,
Just your thought,
It happens,
Beyond mere words,
Something near a growl,
Yet, not a warning...
Rolls up from my heart,
My depths you've touched,
A primal sound of lust,
Desire, want, taking,
Dominant, and yet,
Somehow...
Abject submission.

-----

I LOST THE POEMS

I lost the poems my heart was writing,
As words and images flew between us,
So strong and vibrant,
So complete and compelling
At the moment of their inception,
So, I must content myself,
With what I summon now,
But know, my Love,
What my heart wrote then
Was so much more.

POEM: YOUR WORDS

By: OH

Your words feel like honey
Flowing smoothly on my skin,
Soothing my face like rain,
I lift my arms to welcome your beautiful imagery,
And bask, and bathe
In all its wonderful revelry.

Your words are my hope,
For wonderful mornings,
And enchanting moonlit evenings,
A pleasant walk in the park,
A quiet afternoon of tea,
Or just an intimate cuddle by the sea,

Your words are like magical wands,
That light up my eyes,
That bring silly smiles to my face,

Your words are IN my heart,
Etched and embedded in my deepest core,
For I know the heart that writes them,
The mind that creates them...

And sometimes, I even know the words,
Before you write them,
Because your words are written in my heart
For all time.

POEM: DANCE FOR ME, SALOME

By Donovan Baldwin

Dance for me, Salome,
Move in that fabled way
As you once did for Herod,
Demanding all he had to offer,
For your reward.

As you did him,
Make me insane with lust and want,
Push me to the place,
Where all else fades,
But you...

And nothing matters,
But my dark desire for you...
Woman...

Who can rule my heart,
Capturing its beat,
Within the movements of her body,
Stirring it with,
Designs drawn with hands and arms and legs...
Illuminated by
The dark lightning of her eyes.

Define my existence,
With just a look, a word,
A move.

Dance that sinful way for me,
Show me the steps which lead
To Heaven,
Or to Hell...

Just one time.

Dance for me that way...
Salome.

POEM: EYES AS IF OF THE SEA

By: Donovan Baldwin

Your eyes to me, are as if of the sea,
And, I have searched their depths,
Seeking the beauty behind the beauty,
Of your sweetly smiling face,
For, within your heart,
I sensed a passionate woman,
With deeply loving thoughts,
Desires, for pleasure in a lover's arms,
Together with an everlasting love...
Satisfaction of your heart's yearning,
The completion of yourself.
Pleased and proud at what I see,
I gladly sink within them,
Feeling the warmth of your heart,
As it binds itself to mine.

POEM: WHO WILL TAKE CARE OF ME WHEN I AM GONE?

By: Donovan Baldwin

Who will take care of me
When I am gone?
Who will tend the memory,
Share my words,
The story of who I was,
Or might have been?
Who will remember me
Beyond you,
For only you know me.
You will forget to share me,
When I am gone,
Only words and dust adrift,
In the sky above the sea.

POEMS: January 10, 2019

By Donovan Baldwin

POET NEVER A DANCER

A poet,
I never thought myself a dancer...
Yet,
That thought evolved,
Watching the swirling beauty,
Listening to the beat of the music,
Played for/by the ultimate performer,
Nature...
And then you came,
As, I wrote for you...
To you...
About you...
I realized...
I was dancing.

-----

FRANCE IN DARKNESS

Small French villages,
Shuttered and dark,
Sleeping as they have for centuries.
My bright eyed buzzing insect
Propels me through a place where,
In dark of night,
Time itself seems to sleep,
Yet, I have no time to tarry,
So, press on, leaving history behind,
To the Calais ferry.

-----

ICONS OF ME

Icons, logo images for me?
Pen and dumbbell.
Pen, pre computer keyboard writing instrument for making marks on paper.
Paper?
Look it up.
Old school poet.
Dumbbell?
Double meaning...
Sweaty guy lifting weights...
Old school exercise pre machines,
And,
Dumbbell...
Allegorical.

-----

THE WAY YOU KISS

I love the way your lips open,
Full, ready to be kissed,
Your tongue slides gently across,
Wetting them in anticipation,
As your heavy lidded eyes gaze into mine,
Your face turned up as
Our mouths meet,
Tongues greet,
We breathe as one,
Lost in the moment of the kiss...

-----

WORDS

Words are great,
Wonderful.
I live through my words...
Yet...
It's the sweat on my face,
The ache in my muscles,
The tiredness after
Workout or walk,
That really reminds me I'm alive...
Thinking, writing, dreaming
Are a lot of my life,
But...
So is movement, work, effort...
Pain.

-----

MR FATHER'S WEEKENDS

Weekends,
My father would play,
Records.
Operas,
Classics,
Sitting in a chair,
Mourning a lost time,
Regretting the absence, of
These old friends.
I too,
Sit, listening to the moon,
Hearing waves upon the shore,
Reaching for your hand,
Regretting your absence,
With all my heart.

-----

NO MATTER WHO I LOVE

It doesn't matter who I kiss or love.
It only matters that I do.
Don't tie me to the conventional,
Because love doesn't understand,
Or recognize,
Restrictions or rules.
Anyone can be THE one,
Right time,
Right place,
Right person,
Love,
Right?

-----

YOU WALK IN

In a quiet moment,
Poetry, soft music, and wine,
Sunset glow through the window.
You...
Walk into the room,
Clad only...
In my pajama top...
Carelessly buttoned...
Quick smile at me...
Across the room,
Straightening something on your way
To the kitchen...
Art...
Beauty...
Love.

-----

I IMAGINED YOU

I imagined you,
Long before you happened.
I wasn't surprised by you,
Just surprised that you were real.
After all, someone so perfect,
For someone as strange as me,
Would have to be imaginary...
But...
You exist.
Now...
If you only knew that I do too...

-----

NEATH THE LOVER'S MOON

Soft music fills the night,
Moonlight fills the room,
Brushing silver on your body,
It's gleaming highlights,
Dark, luminous shadows,
Sweetly glowing mounds
With deeply royal tips,
Begging to be explored,
Claimed for love,
Neath the lovers' moon,
As the music swells
To a climax.

POEMS: January 9, 2019

By: Donovan Baldwin

DANCE FOR ME, SALOME

Dance for me Salome,
Move as you did for Herod.
Drive me insane with want,
Push me to the place,
Where all else fades,
Nothing matters,
But my desire for the woman,
Who can rule my heart,
Define my existence,
With just a look, a word,
A move.
Dance that way for me,
Just one time.
-----

THE MOVEMENTS OF HER BODY

With the movements of her body,
She can kill a man,
Or...
Make him want to live forever...
-----

GYPSY DANCER SUNRISE

When scarlet and gold
Of sunrise or sunset is just right,
I can smell a campfire,
Hear the cry of plaintive violins,
The claps and cries of the dancer,
As she whirls, her brightly decorated skirts
Flaring, sharing the exciting beauty
Of night, fire, music,
And her dance.
-----

CALLIOPE

Calliope,
A wondrous word,
Which, by its sound produces
Image of a mystic lady,
In flowing robe,
And...
Somewhere in the darkness of
The woods behind her,
A flute...
Played by skillful hand,
Perhaps...
By Pan himself.
-----

SEDUCTION

She seduced me...
Walked into my life,
Was who she was,
And, without trying,
Made me fall in love with
The reality,
The totality
Of her...
Not her fault,
She cannot help being
The woman she is,
Any more than I,
Can help loving her...
The woman that she is.
-----

I MUST TOUCH YOU

Can't help myself...
I MUST touch you,
With my hands,
With my body,
Each contact of flesh to flesh,
Electric,
Sending and receiving messages
That say "I love you..."
Again and again,
In a thousand words
In multiple languages
That the body can speak
Touching every possible way.
-----

FAVORITE SEXUAL POSITION?

My favorite sexual position?
"Yes."
That's always the best position to take.
Of course,
"More... please..."
Is a nice one too.
It's important to take a position you believe in...
And stick to it.
-----

SHE CAME AROUND THE CORNER

You never know
Who's going to walk around
The next corner of your life...
Could be the one
You've been waiting for,
The one who makes it all...
Worthwhile...
Finally...
Of course,
It CAN be a LONG wait.
But,
You never know...
Maybe today...
-----

FADED MEMORY

So long past,
That even memories of the memory,
Started to fade...
When...
A woman I had imagined
And given up on,
Walked in,
Sat down,
And listened.
Too late?
Maybe not.
Is "ever" too late?
Not as long as I am still alive.

POEM: WHAT IS OUR DANCE?

By: Donovan Baldwin

What is our dance?
A waltz, foxtrot, tango...
It matters not
Tempo or step
As long as you and I are partners,
Within each other's arms,
Within each other's heart,
Locked in happy embrace,
Lost to the world,
But for the music
Of life's dance,
And each other.
