WHORLS OF THE ROSE, AND OTHER ORIGINAL POEMS, NOVEMBER 11, 2023
By Donovan Baldwin
whorls of the rose
soft folds of orchid petals
dewdrops on the bloom
a tiny bud opening
caress of morning breeze
rising heat of the sun
sensuous nature
-----
since she was a girl
thought she must be innocent
and then she met him
whirl of confusion
love which had been sought so long
was not pristine pure
seething love and lust
a helping of sacrifice
and hidden desires
-----
seldom black and white
we are complicated art
rainbows of colors
in classical oils
pastels of watercolor
sharp edged acrylics
naked in our essence
humans and angels alike
pass for each other
-----
love has many forms
not all nights are orgies of
physical delights
candlelit dinner
a glance across a table
shared appetizer
strolling public ways
holding hands like shy children
smiling at past sins
-----
feeds me a morsel
covered with a shining sauce
her fingers dripping
-----
lover learns to read
tones and textures of her skin
secret messages
-----
fearing who might hear
she stifles the urgent cries
as desires explode
a quiet nova
in her universe within
she soars among stars
ecstasy is born
deep within her inner space
secret love silent
-----
a look and a word
tearing her garments to rags
she brings him her heat
-----
somehow miracle
we two drops of love's ocean
form our single sea
-----
opens for his words
and his penetrating gaze
tacit submission
in quiet repose
awaits tactile sensations
feeling his poems
featherlight touches
aroused anticipation
urgent crescendo
-----
lips pressed to your cup
its warm fragile edge yielding
pouring forth desires
-----
her garments hang tattered
revealing then concealing
she sways with her need
-----
poem or prayer
lips worshipping each other
a timeless temple
-----
kneeling she told him
i know where I want to go
please lead me astray
-----
wish i wish for her
with me may she ever be
free to be herself
-----
my poems as snares
i smile each time you appear
caught for a moment
-----
i summon demons
who come to me as poets
to light my darkness
-----
abandoned angel
who became his every wish
in their new eden
-----
she met the poet
took his words and walked away
couldn't stand the man
-----
left without his muse
his pouch of words hangs empty
even echoes gone
-----
be who you must be
you owe a poet nothing
leave him to his words
-----
treasuring their touch
naked among autumn's leaves
her poet watching
-----
she chooses the game
then she picks out the toys...
the rule is pleasure
-----
singing in freedom
dark rose dances in the breeze
before her poet
-----
poet offers images
praises the sound of her song
how she dances for him
-----
lovers share the stars
the sunsets and sunrises...
universe of love
-----
poetry's lonely
just me and a few old words
that once meant something
-----
what's it like to love
and to feel that love retured
to have someone care

THE NUDES OF RENOIR, AND OTHER POEMS BY DONOVAN BALDWIN WRITTEN FEBRUARY 21, 2020
the nudes of renoir
tangible impressionism
body and senses
-----
quivering with want
awaiting satisfaction
anticipation
-----
undulating need
dance to a lusty refrain
only she can hear
-----
alone in her lust
desiring hot caresses
what's a girl to do
-----
glistening body
tastes of salt and her desire
as i drink her love
-----
gliding cross your skin
fingertips arousing me
as they arouse you
-----
flowing through my veins
the drug which you feed to me
within your kisses
-----
touch the bloom's middle
it opens in surrender
yields up its honey
-----
saved one precious rose
placed it on a shelf somewhere
reminds me of you
-----
let my touches move
through your shy secret garden
of blushing petals
-----
do you know my world
of flowers and sunrises
and thoughts about you
-----
carved from pure marble
lightly clad nymph emerges...
seeking a lover

IN SEARCH OF A ROSE, AND OTHER POETRY WRITTEN BY DONOVAN BALDWIN, JANUARY 25, 2020
in search of a rose
i wandered into your garden
found your soft petals
-----
my words ecstatic
sadness, gladness, hate, and love
written in fullness
-----
in cold solitude
i turn my back on the world
your warm hand in mine
-----
pray petals open
blushing blossom on display
sweet scented nectar
-----
fingers reach for dreams
neath my hand i think i grasp
the heat of your flesh
-----
I would not hold back the sun
But, there is that moment
In each arriving dawn,
When I wish the day
Would wait a moment,
Allow me to savor that
Morning glow that appears
Up in the sky and in my breast.
-----
the glow on your cheeks
deep rise and fall of your breast
says much more than words
-----
tell me you love me
but say no words make no sound
let your body speak
-----
peach blossom dances
in heat of burning desire
dripping with nectar
-----
dewdrops on petals
glistening on blushing bloom
desire's elixir
-----
breathe her sacred name
shibboleth to open dreams
where we become one
-----
Upon the air a hint of Spring,
A coming of flowers,
And new leaves upon the trees,
Sporting blossoms and birds,
As their festival attire,
Neath the long blue sky
Which will stretch across
The vault of the heavens,
Touched with gold and
Colors of empire at
Each end of the day.

POEMS, COMMENTS, AND HAIKU BY DONOVAN BALDWIN, SEPTEMBER 23, 2019
coyly dropping clothes and hints
penetrating words
-----
no corset required
nor concealing lingerie
pleasing not teasing
-----
your scent of amber
a sensual invasion
awakens desire
-----
lush and sweet it is
garden of a single rose
i tend and treasure
-----
loving words unheard
silently said hour by hour
wanting you to know
-----

Morning Musing: Breath of Life, That's Me
I read something written by a friend yesterday that started my brain chugging. It played with the idea through the night, and, without caffeine, here's where I'm at.
I am old.
I don't do much for the Earth, or its people anymore.
However, I breathe.
When I breathe out, I, just like you, produce carbon dioxide. Carbon dioxide is, this layman says, what plants breathe in to stay alive.
So, I help give you grass, trees, flowers, and, especially, my favorite, roses...as well as other plants. These plants make the oxygen WE need to keep breathing. Many of these plants are edible, either by humans, or by other animals...which we eat, or enjoy in some other way.
Trees and bushes provide homes for many animals, and, butterflies and birds.
We NEED oxygen and food to live, but, I also would not like to consider life WITHOUT such things as butterflies, birds, and...of course...roses. Just dreaming out loud, in the morning, before coffee.
You're welcome.

Poem: My Beloved's Secret Rose
My beloved has a sweet and secret rose.
A flower hidden from the view
Of all
But,
Sometimes she allows me
To see the beauty of its petals
And gently touch the beauteous bud
Within its sweet center.
When I am allowed by my love I press
My lips to that sweet flower,
And,
Like bee, butterfly, or hummingbird,
Sip the honeyed nectar that drips within.
So sweet, so sweet....
Not just the honey that drips,
But,
The love that asks me to taste
And sample the sweetness of her secret rose.
I close my eyes and I can see, taste,
And feel,
The petals of the rose against my cheeks,
And,
The taste of the honey of her love
Upon my tongue.
