POEM: WRITE TO ME OF LOVE
Write to me of love
Both sacred and profane.
Draw for me secrets
Within your pounding heart.
Song of the ends of
Exhilaration and ecstasy
Of your mind and body.
Step boldly, shyly forward
Eternally exposed by
Trailing transparent words.
How to describe you
Two simple words say so much...
Passionate woman
Write me honest words
Toss veils and cloaks far aside...
Show me who you are
Exposing at last
Your naked soul
Spilling out her words
Poetry in blood red ink...
Ichor of my muse

POEM - WALKING BY THE LAKE - BENBROOK LAKE, TEXAS
| Sunrise over Benbrook Lake, Texas |
Not the trees and the lake.
I just passed them today,
And I have seen others like them.
Today was different,
Walking by the lake.
As I looked at the morning mist,
Hanging over the lake,
Hiding the trees on the other side,
I wished that she was there.
Not too long ago that
Would not have happened.
Now, everything I see or do,
I want to share with her.
The big squirrel,
The leaf covered trail,
The sunlight on the water,
The fog that replaced it.
All is not complete until
She can see it,
Hear it,
Taste it,
Feel it,
Sense it,
With me.
That went through my mind,
Because,
Today was different,
Walking by the lake.

POEM - RAIN BEATS RHYTHMS ON YOUR SKIN
A symphony of secret sin.
I trace them as they strike and flow
Lips and tongue behind them go.
Breathless, I chase the silver sting,
A thirst for wildness, on the wing.
Your skin, a canvas, etched with rain,
My lips, medicine for your pain.
Eager, I pursue each drop
Hoping storms will never stop.
Your body only clothed by rain
So tempting to my fevered brain.
You my feast neath weeping sky,
Dance seductively as I
Touch and taste and drink my fill
Fingers drifting where they will.
So let the rain caress your skin,
Awash with past and future sin,
A promise in those beating drops,
Arousing love that never stops.

POEM: SONG OF THE LOVER
Alone in the Universe...
Alone in the dark, forbidding forest of life,
Until...
I heard a sound so sweet,
So compelling that,
I turned to follow it as if,
Fate had decreed I must.
As I walked, the forest became greener,
Flowers bloomed and
Bushes bore sweet fruit, as
The sound grew nearer... sweeter...
It was a voice, a woman's voice,
And, as my footsteps took me,
Along its path of song and beauty,
I stepped into a glen filled with love song.
There, bloomed all beautiful blossoms,
There, birdsong accompanied,
The singing of the woman,
Who raised her face and sang to me.
No longer alone was I, who heard the song,
Sung by the sweet woman whose
Shining gaze and loving words,
Welcomed me to her place of beauty.
Without understanding words or song,
I sang back to her as her smile
Widened with understanding and recognition,
And our songs joined and soared....
As did our hearts and souls,
No longer alone, but that best of both,
Lovers in all things who found one another,
In the vastness of the Universe.
And as we sang, the words dissolved
Into only feelings of love and joy,
For there are no words for
The happiness of true love.
Together we sang the song of the lover,
A song different from any other,
A song begun as a solo tune,
Becoming the best when sung by two.
And so we joined the chorus,
Of lovers past and future,
One bound in joy to one forever,
As they share the song of the lover.

HAVE I ONCE KNOWN YOU - A POEM OF A PAST ROMANCE FROM ANOTHER TIME AND PLACE PERHAPS
| The Crown of Love, 1875 by John Everett Millais (English, 1829–1896) |
Some other place or time?
Were we lovers then,
Winging forward to the now,
Where we find ourselves
United as before?
These eyes, these lips,
Seeming delightfully new,
Are yet, somehow,
So famliar, and,
Joyful to behold,
To touch once more...
Or so it seems, that
You and I once were one,
Lost to one another...
Seeking through eternity,
For that one who
Filled and made us whole.
I gaze upon you,
Reach for you,
In your newness to
This time and place,
And, with wonderment,
Confused by familiarity
And ease, must ask,
In this now and here...
Have I known you in
Some other place or time?

A LOVER'S TALE - A POEM BY DONOVAN BALDWIN
On wet gray stones my boot heels clattered,
Echoes from silent walls... as if it mattered,
That she and I had passed this way,
And, parted at the dawn of day.
One hurried night of thoughtless pleasure,
While taken to its coarsest measure,
Within my heart a bright light gleamed,
It had been more than what it seemed.
Touched, oh yes touched deeply by,
The lady who had caught my eye,
Who I had claimed so casually,
Yet, tossed aside so soon to be...
And yet, 'twas I was caught within,
As net of love rose from our sin,
And as I heard the first bell toll,
She left ME there, a joke so droll.
As I lay, unbelieving and heartsore,
She left my world and shut the door,
And let the darkness in my soul,
Yes, on ME a joke so droll.

POEM: WRITING WITH MY SOUL'S DARK INK
Words quicker than I think,
Molten flowing thoughts reveal,
A way for poet's heart to heal...
Not sugar sweet nor honey gold
But mere honest words are told,
The secrets buried deep inside,
That love demands I shall not hide.
Stolen glances, pounding heart
The distance that keeps us apart,
The need to see, and touch, and kiss
The needs and wants that we two miss.
Fingers that reach but cannot find
The body hid somewhere behind
Land and oh, the endless sea
Which ever flows twixt her and me.
The laughter that should loud resound,
The oaths by which we should be bound,
The whispers passed by candlelight
Lovers entwined by dark of night.
No ink, no words, can touch the skin.
This separation is a sin.
But, perhaps, these words find grace,
Somehow take my missing place.
Your whispered name upon my lips,
Your phantom at my fingertips.
These poor words all I can give,
And love as long as I shall live.
Ink will fade and paper crumble
But, these words, sincere though humble,
Pressed to your breast, to beating heart,
May cross the distance we're apart.

POEM: WE FOUND EACH OTHER ONCE AGAIN AT LAST
Wiping blank the destinies once made
An old memory at twilight dies...
An echo of a time we two once knew,
Flickers in the depths of lover's eyes
Somewhere in some ancient unknown land,
At long lost oasis caravans well met,
A tale began which stood the test of time,
Two who knew they were fated and yet...
Though fingers read their secrets,
And lips spoke love without a word,
Love embraced love the ancient way,
Till gasps and heartbeats could be heard...
Destiny moved on, tore them apart,
Destroying kiss and touch and mad embrace,
Mere memories remained of what passed there,
And time moved in to fill the empty space.
Though their world dissolved, apart they lived
And died, from lip to ear the story ages passed,
Reminding lovers of the pleasures of that night,
Till we found each other once again at last.

WHEN I LOOK INTO YOUR EYES - A POEM BY DONOVAN BALDWIN
When I look into your eyes,
I lose myself,
While gaining so much more.
Our eyes meet and I feel,
Our spirits begin to join.
I feel myself joining with you,
In a way that leaves me without
A full separation between
'You' and "Me'.
In my mind your whole being
Becomes a part of me
As I feel whatever is my soul,
Trying to fill you up as well.
What was a small, single person
Becomes so much more...
When I look into your eyes.
When I am looking into your eyes,
A change happens in me.
I become more complete,
Yet, at the same time,
More alone.
Your gaze enters me,
Flows into my being,
Filling me with feelings,
I thought were left,
A great distance behind,
In time and space.
You fill me with a warmth
That is a nectar,
Reviving all that used to be,
Before time, and circumstance,
Took what used to be,
Away.
Even though the body remains,
Outwardly unchanged,
The man within does change,
Into a better man,
Happy to be the subject
Of your gaze.
