IN THE MOONLIGHT AND OTHER ORIGINAL POEMS BY DONOVAN BALDWIN, AUGUST 8, 2024
Another natural thing she stands
Bare and naked worshipping Selene,
Eyes lifted skyward, arms outstretched
Welcoming the silver pouring over her body
Aware of how she fills her lover's eyes,
Smiling as, lowering her eyes she sees,
His naked adoration that she,
Naked in moonlight, has inspired.
-----
makes it seem easy
writes me love words that i read
perfect seduction
-----
i immerse myself
salt sweet nectar of venus
font of my desire
-----
pour myself into
your dry and empty places
so long lacking love
you eagerly suckle
brew of mutual desires
keeping some to share
pouring from yourself
filling my empty places
saving more for later
-----
words from a stranger
touch in most forbidden ways
words from a lover
-----
berries dipped in cream
sucking her hard-tipped candies
delicious desserts
-----
as you would for me
secure that love will bring me back
i will wait for you
-----
i dare give you love
knowing that you must explore
love that you would dare
-----
kneel naked darling
presenting yourself proudly
goddess of desire
-----
yes you pose naked
for i choose to write you so
poetic license
-----
fingers in the stream
seek the source of ecstasy
she paddles upstream
-----
near me in the dark
ancient paean she intones
fills me with desire
-----
so often pleasure
others will define as sin
badly misused word
-----
i am consumed by
all the colors of her fire
a passionate byre
-----
storm surge of my tongue
separating petals
striking blossom's core
-----
i will let you go
for you must be free to leave
if i'm to keep you
-----
though goddess you be
don't mock my adoration
respect runs both ways
-----
naked before me
prepared to give herself for
true and honest love
-----
never weep for me
the sad way my life ended
words all i had left
-----
no beauty in myself
let me paint you with my words
pose for me a while
-----
each day spent alone
only living through my words
until night's darkness
-----
it's lonely this place called life
-----
behind simple words
i hide my heartfelt desires
my wish to touch you
-----
play music softly
so that i may hear my thoughts
singing about you

I WATCH IN MOONLIGHT, AND OTHER POEMS BY DONOVAN BALDWIN WRITTEN APRIL 6, 2020
i watch in moonlight
hoping to catch a quick glimpse...
a passing goddess
-----
glittering ocean
changing every time i look...
drowning in your eyes
-----
dive into your depths
drifting within your ocean...
awaken on shore
-----
our private secrets
love stories enacted with...
different endings
-----
you are my model
posing for me constantly...
even when absent
-----
At the urging of the nuns,
I read of Homer's heroes,
Ravishing Helen who toppled
The "topless towers of Ilium",
Words musical to a boy,
A stirring tale replete
With godlike warriors,
And too human goddesses,
So romantically inclined
And also loosely clad, bosomy
Female deities full of passion,
Seething human frailties and desires
How could I, impressionable teen,
Fail to become entranced,
With the romance of poetry?
-----
Beauty not seen,
Not heard, yet sensed,
Understood without
Sound or sight,
Absence adding as much
As presence,
Making that which is here
So much more obvious.

IMPRISONED BY AN ANCIENT WIZARD, AND OTHER POEMS BY DONOVAN BALDWIN WRITTEN MARCH 30, 2020
Imprisoned by an ancient wizard,
Cursed and locked away within
The crumbling prison of my mind,
Condemned to be eternal poet,
Unable to cease my loving labors,
Rewarded and punished at one time,
Damned to write and write until
The words have ceased to flow,
In some universe I hope to never reach.
-----
girlfriend or sweetheart
short and simple words to speak...
lover means much more
-----
poetry can't die
yet like the prettiest plant
ignored turns to dust
-----
Where are you now?
What are your thoughts?
The secrets of your hands?
Do you, there upon your bed,
Think of me, your hands,
Substitutes for mine,
Making love as I would,
Following the thoughts
Within my loving,
Lustful, inventive mind?
Do you moan and sigh,
With loneliness
Desire,
And fulfillment
In my present absence?
-----
Many faceted mirror
Reflection of my shattered soul,
Light and shadow
In kaleidoscopic display,
Fleeting images of
Who and what I am,
That even I do not,
Recognize as the being,
Inhabiting my body.
-----
Would I could write the words,
A scintillating web of poetry,
Which bedazzles my beloved,
Makes the moon turn pale with envy,
At my ability to turn romantic
The most common of commonalities,
And out muse my muse with
The ardent desires hidden
Within the calmest loving words.
-----
moonlight dazes me
your face in light and shadow...
i can't stop looking
-----
if it's sin to love
or show you how much i do...
i stand here condemned
-----
Despite terrors,
Write with errors
Grammatical,
Wild words
Dramatical.
Wrong spelling,
Telling,
Truth,
Forsooth,
Teaching,
Reaching,
Behind,
Into the mind,
Write shortly,
Longly,
Wrongly,
But, come off the shelf,
And write of yourself.
-----
Let us pluck wild fruit,
And in the afternoon breeze,
Bite into the forbidden treats,
As the sweet juices
Run down our cheeks,
Laughing at the sharing,
Kissing to catch each drop,
Of the tempting sweetness,
Feeding one another
Tiny bits so overpowering,
Love's dessert our entree.

SO LIKE THE OCEAN, AND OTHER POEMS BY DONOVAN BALDWIN, WRITTEN MARCH 17, 2020
so like the ocean
dangerously beautiful
often wet and wild
-----
shells upon the shore
dropped from a mermaid's necklace
waves shyly retrieve
-----
i saw the white cliffs
same as caesar so long ago
a gleaming challenge
-----
saw what caesar saw
same white cliffs we veiwed with awe
centuries apart
-----
Something about the surf in moonlight.
It takes on an otherworldly aspect,
Becoming something different
From it's daytime liquidity,
With a slow motion roll
As if of molten metal
Singing a song once
Taught to whales
And, poets with
Such romantic
Imaginations.
-----
in the ocean waves
grains of sand roll too and fro
whispering stories
-----
Philosophers and poets,
Have watched the rolling sea
Listened to its constant roar,
Speculated and lifted pen
Contemplating fore daring
To set down their intense
And weighty speculations,
In dark and gloomy dens,
As lovers wandered down
To dip their feet in water's edge
Exchanging kisses and dreams,
Knowing more about the sea,
Than their somber predecessors.
-----
all the words i write
just the tip of the iceberg
best is unwritten
-----
i write about you
though the story's about me
let's plot together
-----
all the joys of life
mean little if lived alone
sharing is the key
-----
begin with kisses
then share the flavors of love
all the sweet goodness
-----
name written on sand
waves may erase in moments
on my heart... forever
-----
come fiery woman
let us have one dance tonight
never forgotten

BELLY DANCE INDEED, AND OTHER POEMS WRITTEN JANUARY 20, 2020
Belly dance indeed,
Named for a reason
Central point of observation,
Never still for eyes to settle,
Gaze dancing from bright smile
Offering only more secrets
Just as those hinted at
By changing visions of
Breast and thigh and hips,
Face and body and arms,
In constant erotic motion
To the driving beat of
Music intended to arouse
Dancer and watcher.
-----
my angel lover
halo and robe on the floor
folds me in her wings
-----
this sweet entrapment
unintended seduction
by her honeyed words
-----
my second coffee
offering me promises
i hope it will keep
-----
moonlight lovemaking
isolated incident
or common affair
-----
you may touch my books
caress their pages with me
share their seduction
-----
her ancient lover
in a mist of memory
guides her heart and hand
-----
dearest instrument
touched with loving lips and hands
music bursting forth
-----
dearest instrument
touched with loving lips and hands
music bursting forth
-----
her voice soaring high
vibrato and tremolo
impure crescendo
-----
my chest becomes tight
emotions within me swell
i rise overcome
-----
never without you
each moment of every day
filled with your presence

POEMS AND HAIKU WRITTEN JANUARY 11, 2020 BY DONOVAN BALDWIN
softer than my dreams
warmer than my heart's desires
very real woman
-----
neath so many stars
high roof of nature's boudoir
make love by moonlight
-----
Speak not to me,
Of what "man" is or is not,
For each of these homonids,
So difficult to define
Or understand,
Is different...
From neighbor,
From stranger,
From yesterday's self,
From another century's ancestor,
From future progeny...
From 6 AM this morning.
-----
How did it happen?
What does it mean?
Two different questions,
Yet, two sides of one coin,
Perhaps, for, so much of existence,
Must, for we humans,
Be explained...
In its origins and antecedents
And our predictions and
Expectations.
-----
I've heard it said that perception is reality. David Hume differentiates between essentially outward perceptions, which he calls "impressions", and, essentially inner perceptions, which he calls "ideas". Both are perceptions, and both can rule us.
-----
hoofbeats like drumbeats
history's heartbeats happen
begin the story
-----
Tale of Two Cities,
An early adventure tale for me,
I read of the stage
"lumbering up Shooter's Hill".
Even then the poet
I latched on those words,
And, years later, 1981,
In a 4 cylinder Opel,
Lumbered up Shooter's Hill,
Myself,
In awe of tracing Dickens'
Fictional coach, and,
That my own ancient chariot,
Had made it.
-----
Claude Du Val, the highwayman,
Stopped the Highgate stage,
Gentlemanly sort of thief,
I'm told, by the ladies,
Lightened of their valuables,
And, perhaps of a few sighs,
For he was a polite and gallant lad,
Or so I'm told, although,
A gent, lightened of their purse
Seems to think otherwise.
-----
I don't want to die,
But I,
Will raise my hand again,
Take the oath,
And then,
Shoulder pack and rifle,
Move forward,
Do not trifle,
For I am veteran,
Woman, man,
Proud of what I was,
And will be again, because,
I belive in the oath I said,
So you sleep peacefully in bed.
-----
i'm so far away
let me be there making love
touch yourself for me

POEMS, COMMENTS, AND HAIKU BY DONOVAN BALDWIN, SEPTEMBER 18, 2019
blushing in silver array
her desire aflame
-----
wide open we are
no shame or embarrassment
for we share it all
-----
sweet marmalade lips
smiling openly offer
her morning kisses
-----
curving in moonbeams
gleaming silver her body
goddess and lover
-----
lead me to your edge
igniting desires until
i burst with my need
-----
quivering body
parted lips wordless murmurs
moment of climax
-----
the taste of moonlight
spilling from silken petals
to my eager mouth
-----
love's gates open wide
secret succulent garden
where goddess feeds me
-----
lovers tied up tight
bound in ardent positions
prepare for release
-----
slip into my love
gliding over your body
in constant caress
-----
words scrawled in passion
meaningless til heard and felt
even more... believed
