A DRIVE ALONG THE COAST, AND OTHER POEMS BY DONOVAN BALDWIN WRITTEN APRIL 13, 2020

By Donovan Baldwin

A drive along the coast
Majestic trees and crashing waves.
Big blue ocean alive at the shore,
Extends into another eternity.
Sea meets sky and disappear
Together over an unseen horizon,
Become the same for shores with
Other watchers contemplating
Similar sights and considerations.

-----

i am receptor
collector of stray signals...
focused into beams

-----

peaceful warrior
soldier once poet often...
contradictory

-----

if you felt my words
sense them as they flow through me...
you would cry with joy

-----

black night out west
mountain hidden beside me...
distant lonesome howls

-----

it always changes
despite same sun trees wind sky...
each day truly new

-----

Walking amid the slowly waving trees
Listening to the wordless messages
Leaves and branches voice of the wind,
The nearby repetitions of the waves,
The earth saying so much without
Words or voice, branding me with
The sun's heat, burning in the
Memories I'll cherish forever,
Youth in nature never forgotten.

-----

I walk boldly onto
This dangerous field of poetry,
Armored only in a weak chain mail
Made of plaited phrases,
Leaving behind my lexicon shield,
Taking in place of page, my muse,
To serve up my weapon words,
And, bind my wounds after,
Consoling me with kisses.

-----

Something about the written word
The smell of books, touch of the pages
Reality in reverse and forward,
Reader and writer sharing contact
Of mind and heart and almost hand,
As one sets down upon a printed page
Thoughts and ideas to be picked up,
Turned over, and stored away with greed,
To later run our fingers through and
Gloat in private at our treasure.

FIND ME IN THE TREES, AND OTHER POEMS BY DONOVAN BALDWIN WRITTEN MARCH 18, 2020

By Donovan Baldwin

find me in the trees
by the ocean's windy shore
boy returning home

-----

the twisted old oaks
along the bay where winds blow
endure pain and age

-----

one with the forest
the wild blue sea's familiar...
earth's eternal ghost

-----

at first much too shy
until i awakened her
taught her to be bold

-----

trees too far away
across the street out of reach
bring back memories

-----

when the blush began
i smiled pleased at the sight as...
you blushed all over

-----

i've a secret place
and suspect you have one too
let's meet share secrets

-----

do as lovers do
in the rumpled bed no shame
loving in our way

WHISPER NAUGHTY THINGS, AND OTHER POEMS BY DONOVAN BALDWIN WRITTEN FEBRUARY 23, 2020

By Donovan Baldwin

whisper naughty things
give me glimpses of secrets
smile as i respond

-----

always seeking you
sun's touch or whisper of wind
sensing you near me

-----

I open myself to the wind and sun
Dropping inhibitions and clothing,
Walking naked through the woods,
Sensations of air and sunlight
On bare skin in places and ways
That only a lover may touch,
Body and mind alive to each leaf,
Each breeze which passes by
Leaving me quivering
With the pleasure of Earth's
Most natural and loving caresses.

-----

your cello my bow
enthusiastically
making love music

-----

climbing slender trees
riding them in gusting winds
two boys in the woods

-----

horned toads and lizards
daily met on hot white sands
so far behind me

-----

unbreakable bonds
woven of dreams and desires
stronger together

-----

ripples in water
brushstrokes on emerald seas
golden in the sun

-----

weary traveler
beached decaying in the sun
no more a roving

-----

patio shadows
loving dancers in moonlight
their bare skins aglow

-----

you and i on fire
burning with carnal desires
about to explode

-----

shells strewn on the sand
ancient memories set in
hieroglyphics

-----

one tree has blossomed
harbinger of spring perhaps
first burst of new growth

-----

not a jealous man
desire you feel loved
all i really want

POEM: I HEAR THE EARTH SONGS

By Donovan Baldwin

I hear the earth songs,
The voices on the wind,
Singing of the trees,
Words made of
The sounds of coyote,
Bird, and bee,
I see the art of nature,
Paintings in green
And gold and blue,
Royal scarlet,
Colors beyond my palette,
To describe
Common
In the rising
And setting of the sun,
The perfectly hewn
Statue of a flower,
A rabbit,
One tiny blackberry,
In colors and textures,
Which can be touched,
And breathed,
And tasted,
And remembered
Forever...
Something no human
Artist nor poet can achieve.
