Making Money Writing Short Articles for Webmasters and Online Business Owners

Okay, so Charlie's got a new bicycle shop. Charlie's a nice guy and good at what he does, and, once people find out about his shop, he's going to have a lot of customers, a lot of repeat customers, and, a lot of word-of-mouth advertising.

Only problem is, nobody knows where Charlie's Bicycle Repair shop is, and he's a little strapped for cash, and can't buy a lot of advertising to let people know about his new business!

In the old days, one of the first things a new business owner, like Charlie, would do, is buy a listing in the yellow pages. If anybody wanted to find a business in their area, that was the "go to" resource.

These days, however, people grab their laptop, tablet, or smart phone and type in "bicycle repair shop".

So, to be successful, Charlie needs to get a website for his new business.

Not that big of a problem, and, surprisingly, not too expensive, either.

But, now there's another problem.

How does Charlie get people to find out about HIS website?

After all, there's thousands of bicycle repair shops out there, and more of them are getting THEIR websites up every day.

Charlie will probably ask his webmaster what to do, and the webmaster will talk primarily about two things:

1. SEO (Search Engine Optimization), and
2. Content

The webmaster can probably take care of the SEO, that is, making sure that everything that can be done technically to the website itself to make it rate well with search engines, is done. However, not every webmaster can come up with content.

So, what's content, and how can you, the writer, make money writing this "content" stuff?

Well, so far, this post has a lot of "content". We've talked about a new business, a bicycle shop, webmasters, SEO, etc.

There's a lot of information on this page, and, it's unique. It's unique because I just wrote it. I didn't copy it from somewhere else. It's all new stuff that nobody else has.

Oh, the words have all be used, and some of the phrases are common to the English language, but, nobody in the history of the universe has put them all together in exactly this patters....I think!

Anyway, that's what search engines (the things that present a business web page to the searcher), and, the human searcher, are looking for. They both want original, easy-to-read info that answers a question or solves a problem.

That's where the content writer comes in.

Charlie is busy doing what he is good at, which is repairing bicycles, and, he doesn't write too well anyway. The webmaster is busy building webs and doing SEO magic with them while trying to build his or her business.

They need readable, relevant content for three purposes:

1. To help with that search engine optimization stuff. Search engines like to find information on the website itself...information that contains keywords related to the subject matter. That's "content".

2. To help the people visiting the website learn what Charlie's business, and Charlie, is all about. Good descriptive narrative is...well...content.

3. To help raise the value of Charlie, and Charlie's website, in the eyes of the human looking for a bicycle repair shop, and the search engine trying to find the best website to present to the searcher when he or she types in "bicycle repair shop".

This last process is known as "article marketing", by the way.

Business owners like Charlie, and Charlie's webmaster, need a good content writer to provide them with the content for the website itself, AND short, well-written, relevant articles, usually about 300 to 500 words, which can be either added to the business website, or, placed on other sites with a link to Charlie's website.

If you are a fairly decent writer, it's going to be pretty easy to become a good content writer. The trick is, like so many other businesses, getting customers, and streamlining your writing process so that you can actually get into business fast, and start making money writing short articles and other website content.

That is another discussion entirely. In fact, it can be the subject of an entire book.

Fortunately, it is...the subject of a book, that is.

Yuwanda BlackA freelance writer named Yuwanda Black, has been making money as a content writer for many years. Ever the businesswoman, Yuwanda Black has put together a downloadable ebook, How To Make Money Writing Easy, 350-500 Word Web Articles.

In it, she explains the entire process of becoming a content writer, better yet, a "successful" content writer. She not only tells you how to get your customers, but, how to satisfy them as well.

Remember that SEO stuff back up the page?

Well, when you write website content, or content for "article marketing", you need to know a little something about stuff like "keyword density", as well as other ways of making your words help boost the value of a website in the eyes of both the human, and the non-human, searcher.

If you would like to learn more about becoming a content writer, I suggest you take a look at Yuwanda Black's web page. Even if you don't buy her book, you will get a lot of information and ideas simply from reading the information on her web page.

If you DO happen to buy her ebook, just keep in mind that there is a 100% money back guarantee, and several bonuses which come with all the information she provides.

Do Your Articles Need Proofreading...and Maybe Even Re-Writing?

None of us are perfect. Even the best of authors will need a little help from time to time. In fact, I will not be surprised if, by the time you reach the end of this comment, you have caught me in a couple of errors, and I have several hundred published articles.

Even so, there are some particular instances in which you may find that you should have someone take a second look at your articles and maybe even re-write them for you.

Let me ask you a few questions:

Do you write and publish articles in English online?

Is some language other than English your native language?

Is your command of such nit-picky things as punctuation, spelling, grammar a little weak?

Do you have to admit that, although you have something valid to say in your articles, you just don't have that "writing thing" that lets you say it easily?

Did you have to answer, "Yes!" to any of those questions?

If so, there is a good chance that your articles can probably benefit from a little review, and possibly re-writing, by someone with a bit more experience and expertise.

Let me tell you about something that I have noticed in the last year or so.

I have several blogs and websites, and, at one time, I would write almost every word on them myself. However, in the last year or so, I have retired and like to take it easy. Although I still am an active blogger and webmaster, I have gotten a little tired of doing all the work myself and have begun using articles from article directories such as EzineArticles.com.

It's pretty much a given fact that I will have to go through several articles on a subject to find the few which will fit into a particular blog or website. I also understand that not everyone who writes articles is that good of a "writer". However, I was still willing to sacrifice a certain amount of technical skill for a good article which conveyed knowledge in an enjoyable manner.

I was a linguist in the U.S. Army, and, having lived and traveled in Europe for years, I understood how an interesting article written by someone whose native language is NOT English might have a few technical errors here or there...yet still be one I might wish to publish anyway.

Saddly, what I was NOT really prepared for was how many good, interesting, and informative articles I would have to skip over simply because the manner in which the author expressed his or her ideas was difficult to interpret...even though written in English.

If you are someone who is writing articles and publishing them in article directories, no doubt your hope is that those articles will be appreciated by others and perhaps will be published on multiple websites. You probably also hope that those articles will establish you as a knowledgeable person on the subject you write about. The ultimate goal of most such articles is generally to generate business by attracting readers to your business.

However, if your articles are being passed over by webmasters and bloggers like me for the reasons I have outlined, then you are expending a lot of time and energy for nothing. Just this morning, I had to skip over a very informative article that I would have liked to publish on my travel blog. Although it was a good article with a lot of first-hand information which my readers could have used, it was written by someone whose native language is NOT English, and, as such, had too many distracting and confusing constructions for me to use it.

Fortunately, there are many services online which will ghost write articles for you, or proofread, rewrite, and sometimes even publish YOUR articles for you.

If you are intelligent and knowledgeable on a subject, but your command of English is about like my command of German, you should probably hire one of these services to do some of this work for you.

You and I know that there is never a guarantee that even the best written, most interesting article will be the one which goes viral and winds up on thousands of other websites. However, your odds of getting your article accepted and published by a webmaster or blogger will be better if the article you DO submit is well written and easy to read.

Article Marketing Tips from A Guy Who Runs a Huge Article Directory

Article Marketing 101: The Perfect Author Resource Box
By Christopher Knight

If you want to really make your article "SELL" then you've got to craft the perfect RESOURCE BOX. This is the "author bio" that is below your article body and it's also known as your "SIG" (short for SIGnature).

Here are the essential items that should be in your RESOURCE BOX:

Your Name: You'd be amazed at how many folks forget to include their name in the RESOURCE BOX. Your name and optional title should be the first thing in your resource box.

Your Website Address: in valid URL form. Example: rel=nofollow http://Your-Company-Name.com/

Your Elevator Pitch: This is 1 to 3 sentences that encapsulates the essence of what makes you and your offering unique. Also known as your USP (Unique Selling Proposition).

Your Call To Action: You've got them warmed up and now it's time to lead them to BUY from you or visit your website. This is where you "Ask For The Sale." Best to only give (1) specific call to action.

Here are some optional items you could include in your RESOURCE BOX:

Your Ezine Subscription Address: While getting your interested visitor to surf your website is nice, capturing their email address can help you begin the confidence/trust process. If you're going to do this strategy, include a URL for your ezine subscription address and do not use an email address for the "join" address.

Your Contact Information: Such as your business phone number or how to reach you for interviews or your press/media kit. Keep in mind that article marketing is a timeless strategy and you may not have an easy ability to retract what you put in your article once it hits major distribution.

A Free Report: This could also be part of your call to action or your free bonus report that further enhances your credibility as the expert on the topic of your article.

Your email autoresponder: I'm not a big fan of this strategy due to the fact that spammers will text-extract your autoresponder address and add it to their spam list. Perhaps this strategy was best for the 1990's and has now run its course.

An anchor URL that is related to one keyword or keyword phrase that you want to build SEO strength for. Example: if I wanted to build search engine relevance/strength for the term " rel=nofollow Article Marketing," I'd link up that term in my resource box to my website. This is an intermediate to advanced level strategy and should not be abused by over-doing it. Keep it simple.

What NOT to include in your RESOURCE BOX:

A listing of every website you own. There is no faster way to dilute your credibility than by posting a half dozen irrelevant URLs that have nothing to do with each other. Best to only post ONE URL that is related to the topic of your article.

A listing of every accomplishment you've achieved to date. No one cares. Keep your resource box brief and to the point. Yes, your resource box should be benefit oriented so that the reader finds value in reading it rather than your ego being justified.

Advertisements or pitches for products that are not relevant to the topic of your article.

Keep the size of your resource box so that it's no larger than 15% of your total article size. Too often I see resource boxes that are 50% of the size of the total article and this is abusive.

Your Perfect Resource Box Conclusion:

The BODY of your article is where you "GIVE" and the RESOURCE BOX is where you get to "TAKE" for your article marketing gift of information. The resource box is the "currency of payment" you receive for giving away your article. Be sure to include your name, website address, your unique selling proposition as briefly as possible and a simple call to action.

Are You Considering Article Marketing?

Launching an Article Marketing Campaign for More Traffic
By Yoav Rosenberg

So what is article marketing?

Put very simply, article marketing is an online marketing strategy that requires you to create content-rich articles on topics that relate to your topic with links to your website embedded in them. I know this seems overwhelming at first, but it will make perfect since once you are able to get your head around the concept.

The theory behind article marketing is that you build credibility on a specific topic (the topic associated with your website) and then give readers valuable content on the topic. Your content will make you an authority on the topic in your reader's eyes. Hopefully, you will provide enough value that the reader will want to click on the link (to your website) to learn more on the topic or view products discussed in the article.

Let's stop talking about it and get to work! Follow these detailed steps to launch the most effective article marketing campaign possible:

1. Determine two keywords or keyword phrases associated with your website that you think people will put into search engines to find what they are looking for. These words can include your location and a brief description of your business or niche. For example, "Los Angeles drycleaners" or "Daytona book stores".

2. Write five articles on topics associated with the topic of your website and insert your specific keywords throughout the articles. Each keyword should appear two to three times throughout the article. Articles should be at least 500 words in length. Make sure that these articles are valuable to the reader and present them with information that they probably don't know.

3. Create a new, free member account at ezine.com. You can use a pen name (fake name) to create these accounts. You can make the "authority" on the topic whoever you want. For example, the author of your articles can be "Jake Smith", who has eight years of experience in your particular industry.

4. Complete the profile section with details about the author you have decided on. Add a picture (real or fake) to your profile. This will build your credibility.

5. Submit each of the five articles to ezine.com. The website has a detailed description of how to do this. Start by clicking on "Submit New Article." You will be prompted to enter information about the article, like the author, topic and even a short description that will entice readers to click on your article.

6. Copy and paste your valuable article into the "body" portion of the page. Make sure that it is formatted how you want readers to see it.

7. Enter your specific keyword phrases and any others into the box labeled "keywords". This will cause your article to pop up when someone searches for these particular keywords.

8. Then you will see the author's resource box. This is your time to shine and your opportunity to insert links to your free website. It is important that you execute this part of the campaign correctly. You need to come up with two to three sentences that state your experience on the topic and promote your site. You will need to use HTML code to make the links live. The resources on the site will tell you how to do this. Use your keywords as your anchor text in these links.

9. Click on "submit your article" and you are finished. Ezine.com editors review all articles and this process can take up to a week. Your article will go live on the site after it has been approved.

10. Once your article is live, you can monitor the views it has received and how many times people have clicked on the link. This will show you if your articles are effective in driving traffic to your website.

There you have it. That is a very small, but effective, blueprint for launching an article marketing campaign. Remember, you can continuously add articles to drive more traffic and even submit the same articles to a variety of different article submission sites.

Now get to creating content, because there is traffic out there waiting to visit your site!

Any Freelance Writer Can Have an Online Business with Article Marketing

By Donovan Baldwin

One of the best known, and commonly used, methods of Internet marketing is known as Article Marketing.

In article marketing, once the product has been selected, the marketer drives traffic to the selected website and heightens interest in the product by writing and publishing articles relevant to the product or service.

For example, if someone is selling AMSOIL synthetic motor oil, such as I am at lube2005.com he or she can drive a ton of targeted traffic to the site by publishing articles on automotive subjects, such as I have been doing for quite some time at EzineArticles.com.

Just a few of the great things about Article Marketing is that it is free, works great to increase site ranking as major article directories are regularly indexed by major search engines, and can be used to drive targeted traffic to ANY website.

Articles also stay up for years, leaving a constant link in place.

In the last few years, a new market has emerged for freelance SEO (Search Engine Optimization) Copy Writers, many of whom have their own business(es) on the side while providing copy for other Internet marketers as well.

If you are not certain how YOU can use article marketing to build an Internet business, you can click Here to get a free copy of The Fast and Simple Guide to Article Marketing in PDF format.
