HAIKU AND OTHER POEMS BY DONOVAN BALDWIN, AUGUST 13, 2019

intimate lover
delicate and jubilant
shamelessly urgent

-----

her bursting hips poised
captive to breathless pleasure
of his probing tongue

-----

it's not your technique
which drives me beyond the edge
but passion revealed

-----

sated butterfly
colorfully sipping at
succulent blossoms

-----

At last, in her poet's lair,
She explores, seeking more,
Beyond the weaver of words,
Lover she's only known in dreams.
She finds guns and knives,
Statues and souvenirs,
A silent pocket watch,
Worn pocket knife,
Older than his hands,
Photographs of unmet family,
Other times, other places,
Forgotten glories,
And medals pinned upon an old faded uniform,
Pictures of young men with that look,
Knowledge of impending doom,
Books, art, flowers,
His soul kept in boxes.

-----

waiting to be one
breathless anticipation
poised for pleasure

-----

Dance for me,
Step from the memories,
The dusty dreams
Never quite fulfilled
Yet so strong with
You, the lover from
Some other age
And ancient tale
Who once danced
The sacred dance
Which ended in
Mad embraces
In the reeds
Beneath
An understanding moon.
Dance like that once more.
